1. Thinking That One Light Source Is Enough
In order to get a great lighting, using various layering or having lights in different heights can make the difference. Relying on just one light source limits the possibilities of a good lighting space. You can mix floor or table lamps with various overhead lamps to create a great complimentary light what ever mood you may choose.
2. Using Overhead Lighting That’s Too Bright
More lights doesn’t mean good lighting, and when it comes to overhead lights – having it too bright might just destroy the mood. Having dimmers are highly advisable as well as soft light bulbs.
3. Be Informed About Wattage
If you don’t have dimmers, it is highly advisable to have a good understanding about wattage and the level of brightness for each. For living rooms where people usually gather, having a bright light of around 75-100 watts is highly advisable. For dining room or on the dining table, a little less dimmer (around 60 watts) is highly advisable. When get to be familiar with wattage, it will then be easier to evaluate what kind and how bright your lights should be. Keeping your lights at eye level is also highly advisable than having it overhead – which creates shadows.
4. Going Overboard With Recessed Lighting
Conserving thru using Recessed Lighting can do its wonders as well. Having too many fixtures for your ceiling might just disrupt the total beauty of what you hope to achieve. Always be mindful of where you should place such lighting and limit the light sources on your laundry rooms or bathrooms.
5. Forgetting About Dimmers
When it comes to the mood of your homes, creating a mystery, or simply setting a kind of atmosphere, lighting is everything. And having a dimmer makes it easier to set form one mood to another depending on what’s needed.
6. Light Switches Placed in the Wrong Place
The ideal placement of light switches are around 36″ above the floor – just enough height to avoid going on any artwork’s way. From the side of the door, an advised 1½” to 2″ off the side would also be typical for the same reason.
7. Forgetting About Your Closet
This used to be a secret, but these days it becomes very advisable to consider lighting even in our closets. Recessed lighting is not only good for accent lighting but it’s always a good way to make your closets more functional even when the rooms are dark.
